Forecast: Flaky, Dry, Dehydrated

forecast

There is nothing more stunning than the season’s first snowfall, and also nothing more damaging to your skin’s health. Icy temperatures, hot showers, harsh soaps, low humidity, and arid indoor heat can ruin complexions by pulling moisture from the skin. This dehydration disrupts cell turnover, leading to dead cells and lifeless, winter skin.

Is there a solution? YES! You must increase your layers of defense. The products you use on your face are not just to make your skin smell nice, they are supposed to protect you from environmental harm. Sounds like superhero jargon, but in a way, it is!

By layering hydrators under emollient creams and defending your skin against ultraviolet rays with moisturizing sunscreens, you stand the best chance of maintaining glowing, healthy skin during the winter months. Regular moisturizers may not be enough to compensate for winter conditions, especially if you participate in winter sports (that means us, Colorado!)

When choosing moisturizers, stick to those that have one, two, or all three of the following: humectants, emollients, and occlusives.
